Sweet Pongal or Sakkarai Pongal/Chakra Pongal is a sweet festive dish made with rice, lentils, jaggery, milk and flavored with cardamoms, dry fruits & lots of ghee. This rich and wholesome dish is a must try out for this festive occasion. Pongal is a harvest festival celebrated in the state of Tamil Nadu and dedicated to the sun god and is one of the most important festivals for people from Tamil Nadu. On the same day, Makarasankranti is Celebrated in the Rest of India.
INGREDIENTS
Rice – 1 Cup/250 gm
Moong Dal – ½ Cup/100 gm
Water – 4 Cup
Milk - 1.5 Cup
Ghee – 2 tbsp/30 gm
Cashew Nut – 3 tbsp/ 45 gm
Raisin– 3 tbsp/45 gm
Jaggery – 2 Cup
Clarified Butter - ½ Cup
Green Cardamom Powder – Pinch
Milk - 1.5 Cup
Ghee – 2 tbsp/ 30 gm for Cashew & Raisin frying
METHOD
In a cooker add Rice and Moong Dal, Water and Milk.
Cover and give 4 whistles.
In a separate Pan, fry fruits (Cashew Nut, Raisin) on 1 tbsp Ghee.
Switch off the flame and add Jaggery.
Mix well and Make sure flame is still off.
Add Clarified Butter and Green Cardamom Powder and mix well.
Add Milk and fried Dry Fruits then mix it well.
Cook for 5 minutes on medium flame.
