Mattar paneer, also known as matar paneer, and mutter paneer is a vegetarian North Indian dish and Punjabi dish consisting of peas and paneer in a tomato-based sauce, spiced with garam masala. It is often served with rice and an Indian type of bread. We made this delicious and yummy matter paneer without any onion and garlic which can prepared around Navratri’s and other times.
INGREDIENTS
Oil – 2 tbsp / 30 gm
Cumin Seeds – 1 tbsp / 15 gm
Green Chilies – 2 Nos
Ginger Paste – 2 tbsp / 30 gm
Chopped Tomatoes – 3 Medium
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp / 5 gm
Salt – As per Taste
Kashmiri Chili Powder – 2 tsp / 10 gm
Coriander Powder – 2 tsp / 10 gm
Dry Mango Powder – 2 tsp / 10 gm
Water – 3 Cups
Green Peas – 1 Cup
Garam Masala – 2 tsp / 10 gm
Kasoori Methi – 1 tsp / 5 gm
METHOD
Heat 2 tablespoon of oil in a pot/pan on medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add cumin seeds, Green Chilies, Ginger Paste.
Saute until cumin seeds and Ginger Paste sizzle for few seconds.
Then add the chopped Tomatoes
Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
Then add in the Turmeric, Salt, Kashmiri Chili Powder, Coriander Powder, Dry Mango Powder, and cook till the oil gets separated.
Add water now and let it come to a boil
Once the Boil comes up, Add Green Peas (Mattar).
Give it a Stir and add 1 more cup of water.
Cover the pot with a lid and let it cook/simmer for 10 minutes.
Remove the lid and add garam Masala
Add the Paneer Cubes (Indian Cottage Cheese)
Add the Kasoori Methi now, Stir and then cover the pan. Let it simmer for 6 to 7 minutes on medium heat.
Garnish with cilantro and serve matar paneer with some warm rotis or parathas!
